Kevin Durant achieved a special career milestone on Tuesday night after scoring 31 points for the Phenix Suns in their 120-107 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers.
His points tally saw him overtake Elvin Hayes in the NBA’s list of all-time points scorings in his 1,000th game, and now ranks 11th overall. “Being amongst the all-time greats, the guys who set the standard and made the NBA what it is today is an honor. It’s pretty cool and I just gotta keep going,” said Durant after the game.
Despite his historic evening, it was the player’s interaction with a young fan that stole the headlines. In a viral video posted by the NBA’s official account, ‘KD’ stops to take a photo with a kid.
As the youngster struggles to take a selfie with Durant because of his towering figure, the player intervenes, helping him take the memorable photo. The best part came shortly after. In total disbelief, the excited fan- who was no older than 10- celebrated with an adorable dance.
The player received plenty of plaudits for his actions and was praised by users on X (formerly Twitter). ‘KD connecting with young fans is what makes the game even more special,’ wrote one user. “This moment right here? Pure joy!” wrote another.
