Moana 2 is set to release this weekend. The film brings back Auliʻi Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson as Moana and Maui.
The much-anticipated sequel to Disney’s Moana is finally here! Moana 2, slated for release this weekend, promises to take fans on a brand-new adventure while reuniting audiences with beloved characters. The animated film brings back Auliʻi Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson as the voices of Moana and Maui.
But have you ever wondered what Moana would look like as a live-action film set in India? With a talented pool of actors, the possibilities are endless! In an exclusive chat with News18 Showsha, Moana 2’s General Technical Director, Norman Joseph, shared his thoughts on the idea, revealing that there are plenty of great choices to consider.
“The age of the characters would definitely be a factor to consider. Moana is young, and Maui is older. But honestly, I can’t pinpoint specific names because there are just so many great options,” Norman Joseph shared.
When asked if he could see Alia Bhatt as Moana and Varun Dhawan as Maui, much like our own suggestion, Norman agreed with enthusiasm. “I guess so, yeah, that would be a good choice,” he said
Moana 2 is hitting cinemas eight years after the first film released. Ask him if there was a sense of pressure to deliver a better film than the previous one, Norman denied. “When we work on our movies, we always work to create the best movie we can. It’s not a pressure that comes from external forces, such as ‘Oh, Moana did so well, we need to make Moana 2 better.’ No, that’s not how we work,” he explained.
“Every movie we work on, we try to put our best foot forward, as much as we can. We try to make it the best movie we can make, the best movie we are proud of so it’s a pressure that we as artists and individuals and technologists, we want to put our best work forward and that’s how we approach everything and that’s how we approach it. It is not different if it is Moana 1 or Moana 2,” Norman added.
The sequel is set three years after the events of Moana. This time around, Moana and Maui reunite for another adventure in the sea. They are finding a way to break God Nalo’s curse that was cast on the hidden island of Motufetu. During their journey, they cross paths with some old enemies and make new foes.
Apart from Auliʻi Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson, Moana 2 also has Temuera Morrison, Nicole Scherzinger, Rachel House, and Alan Tudyk reprising their roles. Khaleesi Lambert-Tsuda, Rose Matafeo, David Fane, Hualālai Chung, Awhimai Fraser, and Gerald Ramsey are the new cast members of the franchise.
